RUNNING WATERS @ MT TAMBORINE
HISTORY AND ORIGINS:
Running Waters is a historic stone cottage on pristine and picturesque Mount Tamborine, the jewel in the crown of the Gold Coast hinterland in Queensland, Australia. Enveloped by lush rainforest and serenaded by the soothing sound of running water from meandering Cedar Creek, this little hideaway has steadfastly resisted the winds of change to remain more or less as it was when it was built over 80 years ago.
The cottage was originally built and owned by a British designer by the name of Mr William, who settled in Mount Tambourine in 1936. A dedicated tea lover and amateur horticulturalist, Mr William found the natural environment of Mount Tambourine to be conducive to the cultivation of tea plants. He subsequently sourced a wide range of tea plants and edible flowers from different parts of the world and planted them in the sprawling gardens surrounding his cottage. And so the seeds of the brand that has come to be known as Running Waters were planted.
Running Waters, the brand, is directly inspired by the cottage of the same name. Its owners and caretakers have concocted a series of exquisite tea blends, many of which include leaves from the very plants that grace its gardens.
Every fragrant cup of Running Waters tea is brimming with history – the age-old pursuit of perfection in the art of tea cultivation, that stemmed from China and branched out all over the civilised world. It is steeped in the risk-taking spirit of adventure that impelled an Englishman to cross oceans and settle in the Antipodes, bringing his love of tea, and a collection of tea plant cuttings, with him. It is sweetened with the aftertaste of countless moments of quiet contemplation, enjoyed by generations of tea drinkers who have entered the ‘zone’ of tea drinking bliss, where thoughts flow like… running waters.
